Dr. Jesus Vidaurri Leal, MD

Educational Background:
Dr. Vidaurri studied medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico, and completed his Ophthalmology residency training at Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel. He then earned a fellowship in Cornea and Laser Refractive Surgery from Harvard University in Boston, MA, as well as a fellowship in Retina from the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.

Experience:
He has done intensive research in many ophthalmologic areas, discovering new ways to treat certain ailments. One of his main discoveries is a new treatment that saves patients with retinal detachment and proliferative retinopathy from losing their vision. This outstanding accomplishment, earned him two of the most desired awards a young ophthalmologist can get: the “Young Investigators Award” and the “Certificate of Merit” granted by the Wilmer Institute at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine in 1983.

Dr. Vidaurri is internationally recognized for his expertise and his innovative ideas in the ophthalmology field. He is one of the first doctors in America who started doing Laser Refractive Surgeries and given his extensive knowledge he has trained ophthalmologists from all over the world in the use of Lasik technology.

Dr. Vidaurri is also renowned in the Refractive Surgery field and is a frequent speaker at international symposiums on the subject of Advanced Techniques in Lasik Surgery. His broad experience has led him to develop and patent several surgical instruments to improve Lasik outcomes, which are used by surgeons all over the world.

His years of practice have given him knowledge and expertise that enable him to select the perfect candidates for surgery. This adequate selection is crucial to minimize post-operatory complications and increase the chances of success. Thanks to his patented Vidaurri Lasik System, he has obtained 99.9% of success in the Lasik surgeries performed.

He is author and co-author of multiple research projects that have been published in international ophthalmology books and magazines.

He is a certified member of several associations, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Mexican Society of Ophthalmology, International Society of Refractive Surgery, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Panamerican Society of Ophthalmology, Keratomieleusis Study Group, Retina Society, and the International Association of Ocular Surgeons

Dr. Ilse Backhoff Pliego, MD

Dr. Backhoff studied medicine at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico, and later specialized in Ophthalmology at the San Jose Tec de Monterrey Hospital. She also received training in Retina and Ocular Microbiology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.

She is a member of the Mexican Ophthalmology Council and the Nuevo León Ophthalmology Society.

She specializes in Lasik Surgery, Cornea Transplants, Cataract Surgery, and Pterigion Surgery.

Dr. Martin Heredia Elizondo, MD

Dr. Heredia studied medicine at the Monterrey TEC School of Medicine in Monterrey, Mexico. He specialized in Ophthalmology and Retina, Macula and Vitreous at the Dr. Luis Sánchez Bulnes Hospital, from the Association to Prevent Blindness, in Mexico City.

Later he trained in Retina, Macula and Vitreous at the Storm Eye Institute at the University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.

He was instructed in the use of Photodynamic Therapy to treat Age Related Macular Degeneration. He participated in numerous investigations in retina ailments and has taught several classes, certified by the APEC and the Storm Eye Institute.

Dr. Fortino Velasco Peralta, MD
Dr. Velasco received his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and later the Surgeon Ophthalmologist degree from the same institution in Mexico, City.

He completed his Master of Anterior Segment at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Institute (Barcelona, Spain), and later received clinical and surgical training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Ocular Microsurgery Institute of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain).

Dr. Velasco undertook research in Ophthalmology at Sant Pau y la Santa Creu Hospital (Barcelona, Spain) and research in Ophthalmology and clinical training in Ophthalmology at Sondrio Hospital (Sondrio, Italy)
Due to his constant research, Dr. Velasco has been invited to join the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Association of Surgeons of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), Barraquer Ophthalmology Institute’s Society, and he is a member of the Drafting Committee for the Congress of the European Society of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Carolina Cantu Lee, MD

Dr. Lee studied medicine and Ophthalmology at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico. She graduated with honors and received the “Mexico`s Best Students” Award from the National Science and Technology Council and the “Waterford Scholarship” from the Rotary Club.

She then did her Pediatric Ophthalmology residency training at the Children´s National Medical Center Hospital at George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Dr. Lee has collaborated in several research pediatric ophthalmology projects. She is certified by the Mexican Ophthalmology Council and is a certified member of several associations like the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Dr. Sergio Leal Chapa, MD

Dr. Sergio Fernando Leal Chapa is a graduate from the School of Medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL), located in Monterrey, Mexico.

He did his residency in Ophthalmology at the Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital, of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. In that same institution, he also completed his sub-specialty in Cornea, Ocular Surface and Lasik Surgery.

Dr. Leal received instruction in the use of Cross-Linking in the treatment of keratoconus, as well as corneal ectasia.

Dr. Adolfo Morales Gonzalez, MD

Dr. Adolfo Morales Gonzalez is a graduate from the University of Monterrey (UdeM). He did his residency in Ophthalmology at the Center of Ophthalmology of the Hospital San Jose Tec de Monterrey, Children's Hospital of the Ministry of Health, and the Santos y De la Garza Evia Not-For Profit Center for Health Care. During his residency, he completed a clinical-surgical academic stay in Glaucoma.

He completed his sub-specialty in Glaucoma, at the Dr. Luis Sánchez Bulnes Hospital, from the Association to Prevent Blindness, in Mexico City.

Dr. Morales has done research on various topics, including glaucoma, presenting his work at various national and international congresses.
