Gabriel Senior, Founder and CEO of Travel For Care – Mexico’s leading Medical Travel facilitator, was interviewed by students from Mexico’s top MBA, the EGADE.

Monterrey, October 12, 2010

This group of foreign and local students from diverse backgrounds are on track to receive a masters degree in business and were eager to understand certain aspects of choosing an entrepreneurial career in a booming market like Mexico. Topics discussed ranged from how Mr. Senior decided to make the jump to become an entrepreneur, to how did Medical Travel became his chosen idea to pursue, to Medical Travel trends. Travel For Care and its high quality medical travel services to foreigners was also thoroughly discussed. Another focus of the conversation was how Mexico is playing a significant role in the region as a place with a competitive location, workforce, and other advantages.

The main idea about when and how to jump at an entrepreneurial career is usually answered by a question: “Do you have the strength, patience, and endurance that it takes to leave a high-paying job, go it alone, be rejected a thousand times until you finally make it, and enjoy yourself along the way?” Gabriel took his chance as he knew it was a great moment to do it and this first venture could pave the way for other interesting and lucrative paths in the future. How did he come up with this? Things just start falling into place and making sense. For instance, he found himself suddenly living in a place extremely well located to serve potential patients from the U.S. and Canada interested in Medical Travel. Second, Monterrey’s top-notch healthcare system affords patients the comfort of knowing that their health is in the best hands. And last, the city’s best private healthcare still offers extremely competitive prices for everything from breast augmentation to orthopedic surgery; even including airfare and hotels, the savings is remarkable. This industry has always existed, but it just had to be marketed better. That was the opportunity.

When asked about how Mexico is being put on the spotlight for violence and how this is affecting medical travel, Senior assures that it will remain a premium Medical Travel destination based on its fulfillment of the most important criteria that matters. While some parts of Northern Mexico and of Monterrey indeed suffer from drug-related violence and the recent spike in military and police operations against drug cartels, that absolutely does not mean that the bustling industrial and commercial activity of the city is affected and much less that foreign patients coming for a few days are at risk. Travel For Care is still going strong and every single American patient who comes to Monterrey, leaves extremely happy.

This energetic group studying Entrepreneurship from an academic point of view now has a better impression of how someone with a lot of motivation and drive can make the jump and go into a business adventure in any field. They also left with the understanding that Medical Travel in Mexico is a viable and interesting field with a lot of room to grow.
